Protests erupt across Bengal after attack on Suvendu Adhikari’s convoy, BJP demands President’s rule
Massive demonstrations took place outside the Assembly by BJP MLAs, who raised slogans and burnt effigy of the Speaker after the opposition MLAs walked out of the assembly.
Inside the state assembly, on the last day of the Budget session today, BJP legislators raised slogans, showed black flags and came down in the well to protest. Then raising slogans, they walked out of the assembly, as they flung papers. They demanded that the Speaker should leave his chair.
“They know very well how one gets the chair of the Speaker. They are making me famous. The Speaker’s chair can be received democratically and this kind of incidents have never happened before inside the assembly. I have heard that they have created trouble in Baruipur yesterday,” Speaker Biman Bandopadhyay said.
“I want follow rules. Like Lok Sabha, I don’t want to pass the bills by keeping the opposition outside. Everyone should participate,” the Speaker said.

Various Trinamool legislators and ministers criticized the BJP MLAs for disrupting the proceedings of the House.
After walking out, the BJP MLAs led by opposition chief whip Shankar Ghosh, protested outside. Papers were torn and flung into the air and effigy of the Speaker burnt outside the gate of the assembly.
