Amazon and Costco have been pushed to second and third place respectively as the most preferred grocery stores of Americans. In a survey conducted by the Retailer Preference Index (RPI), H-E-B has emerged as the top choice for shoppers in the US. They have won this coveted position the third time, beating big names like online giant Amazon and smaller stores like Trader Joe's. With 380 stores in Texas and Mexico, H-E-B made $38.9 billion and were named one of «America's Largest Private Companies» by Forbes in 2022. They were also named Retailer of the Year in 2010 and are one of the «Top 75 North American Food Retailers.»
In the Retailer Preference Index survey, Amazon came in second place in the ranking, with Costco close behind in third. Other stores in the top 10 list include Market Basket, Sam's Club, Wegman's, Aldi, Shoprite, Walmart Neighborhood Market, and Walmart.

A report shows that the best stores have an 8.5% growth rate over five years, compared to the 3.6% growth of stores that aren't doing as well. Besides, many people like shopping at the top stores compared to the ones that aren't so popular.
According to the retailer's research body Dunnhumby, it is super important for stores to know what shoppers want and how they stack up against other stores. One of its top officials, Matt O' Grady told 'The Mirror', «Customers are re-evaluating their opinions of retailers more than ever, and that will only intensify in the coming months due to the economic headwinds facing consumers.»
