According to Express US, with healthcare systems under severe pressure, famous doctors are actually urging individuals to take necessary precautions to protect themselves during this challenging season. The simultaneous rise of these illnesses eventually poses significant risks specifically for the vulnerable populations such as infants and the elderly.
During such times, to help and mitigate the risks, several experts have recommended six key strategies.
First, individuals eligible for vaccination should receive their COVID-19 boosters and flu shots. The RSV vaccine is also available for high-risk groups which also include older adults and pregnant individuals. Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to prevent the severe illness from these viruses.
Second, regular handwashing is extremely crucial. Public health experts advise washing hands with soap and hot water for at least 20 seconds specifically since there is no vaccine for norovirus. Alcohol based sanitizers are ineffective against this highly contagious virus which can spread easily through contaminated surfaces.
