Quebec entrepreneur Daniel Langlois and partner reportedly found dead in Dominica
The charred remains of two people found in a burned-out vehicle in the Caribbean island country of Dominica on Friday are believed to be those of Quebec entrepreneur Daniel Langlois and his partner, Dominique Marchand, according to a Dominican news outlet and several Quebec media reports.
Dominica News Online reported Saturday it had been informed by local police the remains are those of the couple, who had been reported missing, and the burned vehicle matches the description of theirs.
Global Affairs Canada said in an emailed statement it “is aware of the presumed death of two Canadian citizens in Dominica. Our hearts are with the families and loved ones of the Canadian citizens involved.
“Canadian officials continue to monitor the situation closely, are engaging with local authorities and providing consular assistance. Due to privacy considerations, no further information can be disclosed.”
The circumstances surrounding the couple’s disappearance “remain unclear,” says Dominica News Online, but police have taken three suspects into custody for questioning.
According to the publication, police said the intensity of the fire in the vehicle makes it impossible to identify the bodies in the vehicle and leaves investigators “to rely on circumstantial evidence to connect them to the missing couple.”
Langlois was the founder and owner of a luxury off-the-grid resort in Dominica, which lies between Guadeloupe and Martinique in the eastern Caribbean.
He and Marchand first came to the island in 1997, according to media reports, and the Coulibri Ridge eco-resort, 20 years in the works, opened to the public in October 2022. Langlois had Dominican citizenship, said an article about the resort in the Hollywood Reporter in March.
