New Delhi: Rainfall activity over Southern Peninsula will likeLight or moderate rainfall may continue over southern regions till tomorrow and decrease thereafter, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Thursday. The weather office has predicted forecast heavy rainfall fpr Kerala and coastal Karnataka today. Meanwhile, rains lashed parts of the national capital territory on Thursday, causing waterlogging in several areas.
IMD said the city recorded 5 mm rainfall in the 24 hours ended 0830 am. The national capital’s minimum temperature had settled a notch below normal at 26.5 degrees Celsius on Wednesday. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around the 35 degree Celsius today.
Monsoon showers resulted in a decline in air pollution levels, with 31 of the Central Pollution Control Board’s 36 monitoring stations recording the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the ‘satisfactory’ category at 12 pm. An AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’. Delhi is expected to see light to moderate rain or thundershowers until Thursday, and the minimum and maximum temperatures are projected to be in the range of 26-27 degree Celsius and 32-36 degree Celsius, respectively.
As the monsoon trough at mean sea level lies south of its normal position, the weather department expects extremely heavy rains over Konkan and Goa today and in Saurashtra and Kutch on Saturday. Light to moderate widespread rainfall is likely to continue over Konkan and Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during the next three days and over Gujarat for the next five days. Similar weather is expected over the northwest region until Tuesday
