Five women were killed and 12 others injured when a Uttar Pradesh (UP) Transport bus collided with a trailer truck on Friday in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur.
The accident occurred on the Halaina Mahua Highway while the bus, en route from Aligarh to Jaipur, attempted to overtake the trailer truck, according to Sub Inspector Brijendra Singh.
Four women died on the spot, while 13 passengers sustained injuries. One of the injured women passed away during treatment at Bharatpur government hospital.
An injured passenger later told reporters that the bus was travelling at a high speed during the attempted overtaking manoeuvre, resulting in the collision with the truck. The impact of the collision extensively damaged the front portion of the bus.
