Rajinikanth makes the producer very happy with the success of 'Jailer'.
Impressed with the movie's performance at the box-office, Sun Group founder and Chairman Kalanithi Maran gifted the Tamil superstar keys to a brand new BMW X7, priced around Rs 1.25 crore.
Rajinikanth was given a choice between the BMW i7 (priced at around Rs 1.95 crore) and the BMW X7, and the actor picked the latter.
The owner of Sun Pictures, which bankrolled the movie, also gave a cheque to the actor for an undisclosed amount. The envelope contained the inscription 'Superstar Rajinikanth — Record Maker'.
Maran met the 72-year-old on Thursday evening to hand over the cheque and present the cars as a gift.
According to the noted film trade analyst Manobala Vijayabalan, the envelope that Maran handed over to the 'Robot' star contained a single profit-sharing cheque worth Rs 100 crore from the City Union Bank of Mandaveli branch in Chennai.
Before this, Rajini had been already paid a remuneration of Rs 110 crore for the movie.
With earning a total of Rs 210 crore for 'Jailer', Rajinikanth became the highest-paid actor in India, Manobala said.
It was also understood that Maran — while handing over the Rs 100 crore cheque and the BMW X7 SUV, requested the actor to work on «one more film» after completing Lokesh Kanagaraj's project 'Thalaivar 171'.
Another film trade analyst Ramesh Bala said that Rajinikanth has held this title since the 1980s.
Sharing the worldwide box-office numbers, Manobala said that 'Jailer' crossed the Rs 625 crore milestone in just 22 days since its release on August 10. He said that the movie will now race towards Rs 650 cr club.
While the movie minted Rs 450.80 crore in Week 1, it made Rs 124.18 crore and Rs 47.05 crore in its
