Ravi Agarwal appointed CBDT chairman effective July 1
Ravi Agarwal, a 1988 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the income tax cadre as the new chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

Ravi Agarwal has been serving as a member, CBDT (Administration) since, July 2023.
According to the order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Saturday Ravi Agrawal, will be chairman of the CBDT, effective, July 1 up to the date of his superannuation on September 30.
After that he would be re-appointed on contract basis upto June 30, 2025, on usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed Central Government officers,
He will succeed Nitin Gupta, 1986 batch IRS officer(IT).
Gupta was appointed the CBDT head in June, 2022. He retired on September 30, 2023 and was reappointed by the government till June 30,2024.
