Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed R. Lakshmi Kanth Rao as the new Executive Director with effect from May 10.
He will take charge over Deposit lnsurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation, Right to lnformation Act (FAA), and Department of Communication, the central bank said.
Rao, prior to his elevation as Executive Director, served as the Chief General Manager-in-Charge in the Department of Regulation at the RBI. With an extensive career spanning over three decades within the Reserve Bank, he brings a wealth of experience in various domains, including Regulation of Banks and NBFCs, Supervision of Banks, and Consumer Protection, the apex bank said.
His past roles include serving as the Banking Ombudsman at RBI Chennai and as the Regional Director of Uttar Pradesh in Lucknow.
Additionally, Rao has been actively involved as a member of numerous Committees and Working Groups, contributing significantly to policy formulation within the RBI.
Educationally, Shri Rao holds a graduate degree in commerce and has pursued a master's degree in Business Administration (Finance) from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. Furthermore, he holds a Diploma in TIRM (IIBF) and is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance (IIBF).
