Re-polling was conducted in 696 polling booths all across West Bengal in the presence of central forces and state police. Around 53.95% polling was reported till 3PM today. Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam of Calcutta High Court has sought a report from the Inspector General, BSF, the Nodal Officer, who was appointed for deployment of forces for Panchayat election, in connection with a PIL filed by Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury .
A police personnel was beaten up by a mob in Nadia district during polling in a booth. He was seriously injured following mob fury and has been admitted to a private hospital in critical condition. Sporadic violence erupted in parts of the state, including Coochbehar's Dinhata, during repolling.
Bombing, booth capturing was witnessed. Three political workers died. A Trinamool Congress worker from Murshidabad’s Raninagar and a CPI(M) activist, who were severely injured and admitted to hospital on the polling day, succumbed to injuries on Monday.
In another incident, the body of a local BJP leader from Dhubulia was recovered in Nadia district. Ashto Mondal, was missing since July 4 and his body was recovered from the bushes adjacent to a pond on Monday morning.Petition in HC The Calcutta High Court today heard a matter pertaining to violence during Panchayat polls mentioned by Congress leader and petitioner Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Chowdhury appeared for the matter in-person.
