Gujarat Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) by the state government has drawn sharp criticism from opposition Congress.
Congress President Shaktisinh Gohil in a late night video message called this an attempt to relax prohibition in Gujarat through the backdoor.
It may be mentioned here that one Friday, Gujarat Government declared that the employees of the GIFT City as well as authorised visitors to the companies within GIFT City will be lawed to consume alcohol in designated areas in a bid to facilitate “wine and dine” services offered by the restaurants. However the restaurants will not be allowed to sell liquor bottles, the government added.
Gohil said that Gujarat has retained good law and order due to prohibition and it is because of prohibition that women can move on the streets late in the night.
“A girl can travel home alone on a scoot at 2 in the morning after garba during navtari in Gujarat because of prohibition,” Gohil claimed, adding that the industrialists set up industrial units in Gujarat because they know that the labourers will not waste themselves over alcohol in Gujarat and thus will ensure better output.
Gohil went on to list the industrial achievements in Gujarat and sought the support of Gujarat’s people to convince the state government to withdraw the decision.
Senior Congress MLA Amit Chavda too took to social media and claimed that prohibition has been the cornerstone of development for Gandhi’s Gujarat. Alleging that the youth of Gujarat is already suffering the menace of narcotics and alcohol due to faulty policies of the state government and now the government is pushing relaxation of prohibition through backdoor in the name of business and development.
