What caused the death of Paul Reubens?
The Blast has access to the death certificate of Paul Reubens, which declares that the actor died of ‘acute myelogenous leukemia’. According to the National Cancer Institute, «Acute myeloid leukemia or AML is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. It is the most common type of acute leukemia in adults.» Paul Reubes later also developed metastatic lung cancer. In his final moments, Paul Reubens succumbed to “acute hypoxic respiratory failure” as a result of his illness.

Paul Reubens created a posthumous statement, which was released after his death. In the statement, he apologized for keeping his battle with cancer undisclosed.
“Please accept my apology for not going public with what I’ve been facing the last six years. I have always felt a huge amount of love and respect from my friends, fans and supporters. I have loved you all so much and enjoyed making art for you,” the statement read.
The actor also directed any “expressions of sympathy” to be made in honor of his late parents to ‘Stand Up to Cancer’ or organizations that were “involved with Dementia and Alzheimer’s care, support and research”.
