Rehoboth Beach Police Department, 31-year-old Richard Boateng was last seen in the surf off the beach near Rehoboth Avenue on Sunday evening. This beach is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
Rehoboth Beach Fire Company Chief Chuck Snyder said that the lifeguards reached when the 911 call came. The United States Coast Guard, Delaware State Police, and Division of Fish and Wildlife all came forward to find Boateng. The search came to an end when his body was found on Monday morning.
Earlier in a statement, Capt. Jennifer Stockwell, commander of Coast Guard Sector Virginia has warned the people and asked them to think twice before coming to water this weekend. According to the National Weather Service, dangerous rip currents have claimed 57 lives this year.
A rip current is a narrow, strong current flowing away from the shoreline toward the ocean. It often flows perpendicular to the shoreline and a person caught in this current can easily be swept away. The Coast Guards have warned of rip currents ahead of Hurricane Idalia.
