road transport and highways (MoRTH) has set up a round the clock control room in view of the onset of monsoon, same as last year.
“The control room has been set up to monitor the problems arising from heavy rains impacting the operation of national highways in the country, viz., disruption of traffic, accidents due to poor visibility and potholes, water logging, road obstruction and landslides etc,” it said in an office memorandum issued on Saturday.
Dedicated teams have been deployed for control room duties which will include receiving calls from public as well as government agencies and monitoring electronic media platforms for monsoon related incidents pertaining to operation of national highways.
The teams have been mandated to coordinate with the concerned regional officers of MoRTH, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) towards faster resolution of the issues pertaining to blockage or damage to national highways.
MoRTH has 25 regional offices across India and the officer in charge of the control room will be responsible to ensure any information related to blockage or damage to national highways shall be brought to the notice of concerned regional office immediately for necessary action or redressal.
Besides, the control room will be responsible to submit the daily report for each regional office by the end of the day.
“It will be operational with immediate effect till further notice,” the ministry said.
