Uttar Pradesh's Noida when several iron rods, dislodged from an elevated road under construction, plummeted onto his car, narrowly avoiding a tragic outcome.
Dev Singhal, the young driver, found himself facing a perilous situation as these heavy rods, each measuring 2.5 to 3 feet, pierced through his car's windshield. One rod came dangerously close to his eye, while three others stopped mere millimeters from his face and chest.
Another rod pierced the windshield but mercifully landed inches away from the gearshift.
The incident occurred near Pillar No. 71 of the Bhangel elevated road in Noida while Dev was driving his Swift back from Bhangel, where he had purchased goods for his hardware store near Sector 101 metro station.
In a police complaint, Dev has blamed the Noida Authority and its contractor for negligence that had put his life at risk.
Recounting the terrifying moment, Dev stated, «I was saved by a whisker.
I am unscathed, but haven't recovered from the shock.»
Dev's father, Devendra, expressed his concerns about the safety measures on the elevated road. «Why were no safety nets installed on the elevated road to prevent debris or materials from falling? Today my son had a lucky escape, but tomorrow, someone may get injured,» he stated.
Devendra also raised concerns about the use of subpar construction materials and missed project deadlines by the contractor.
A senior police officer at Sector 39 station confirmed that they were investigating potential negligence, and an FIR would be filed accordingly.
The project's contractor is UP State Bridge Corporation Ltd. Shripal Bhati, Deputy GM (Civil) of the Noida Authority, revealed that a fine of Rs 5 lakh had been imposed on the contractor for their «negligence.» He
