New York | Rupert Murdoch will step down at Fox and News Corp.
His son Lachlan will take over as the chairman of News Corp and will continue as executive chairman and CEO of Fox.
The 92-year-old media mogul, who has ruled a global media empire for decades, will become the “chairman emeritus” of each company.
“On behalf of the Fox and News Corp boards of directors, leadership teams, and all the shareholders who have benefited from his hard work, I congratulate my father on his remarkable 70-year career,” Lachlan Murdoch said.
Murdoch has played a huge role in US democracy in latter years. The media tycoon’s Fox News backed Mr Trump as he won the White House in 2016 but Murdoch is vehemently opposed to the possibility of a second Trump presidency.
A new book suggested that the 92-year-old Murdoch wished Trump was dead.
