Samsung on Wednesday announced its fifth generation of Galaxy Foldables – Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5, along with new Galaxy tablets and smartwatches. The Galaxy Z Flip5 comes with a larger cover display, that the company claims is 3.78 times larger than the previous generation, supporting a wider range of capabilities including support for more widgets, a full-fledged typing experience and access to quick settings, along with the camera.
The Galaxy Z Fold5 is the company’s thinnest and lightest Fold yet, with a 7.6-inch inner display that has improved brightness by more than 30%, according to the company. The phone is now water resistant, and comes with a new hinge design that allows it to fold flat, shaving the thickness by roughly 2mm.
It also supports Samsung’s S-Pen for notes and drawings. The Galaxy Z Flip5 and Galaxy Z Fold5 will be available for pre-order in select markets from July 26, with general availability starting August 11.
India prices of the smartphones will be announced at a later date. Both smartphones are powered by a custom version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 mobile platform designed for Samsung smartphones, and feature a wider variety of recycled materials than their previous generations, including recycled glass, aluminum, plastic sourced from fishing nets, water barrels and PET bottles, in a bid to achieve the company’s goal of reaching net zero carbon emissions by the end of 2030 for its device experience division.
