The directions were passed on a clutch of interlocutory applications in a case pertaining to the ban on the sale, purchase and use of firecrackers in India.
The court had last week refused to interfere with a Delhi government order putting a comprehensive ban on manufacture, storage, sale and bursting of firecrackers.
BJP Lok Sabha MP from North East Delhi, Manoj Tiwari, had told a bench headed by Justice Bopanna that a complete ban on bursting of crackers has been imposed by the Delhi government despite the court allowing bursting of green firecrackers. Tiwari's counsel had last week added that many states have imposed a complete ban despite the orders of the top court.
Refusing to interfere, the bench had verbally told the counsel for Tiwari that «locally, if there is a ban, there is a ban.
We will not interfere… you find other ways to celebrate».
The bench had last week further orally remarked that «people's health is important. If you want to burst firecrackers go to states where there is no ban».
