The search operation at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls commenced after base personnel moved to secure both their establishment and an adjacent elementary school.
Lockdown enforced as authorities secured base and school
Security forces received reports about gunshots near the southeast area of Sheppard Air Force Base starting at 9:40 a.m. EST. The security forces reacted by blocking entry to the military base while at the same time securing Sheppard Elementary School for safety purposes. The drone system helped security forces conduct their search operation while local officers from Wichita Falls Police, together with Wichita County sheriff’s deputies, received awareness about the critical situation.
The command post was established at the base while officers executed two rounds of checks throughout the surrounding area. Station communication logs showed that a white male wearing a blue shirt and a ball cap was observed walking in the vicinity of the Wichita Falls Regional Airport and a nearby school. The first searches proved fruitless as investigators failed to detect either the presence of guns or suspicious individuals.
