Sight Unseen" is a procedural drama and marks a shift in genre for The CW, aiming to attract a broader audience and align more with the content offered by other major networks. Here's what you need to know about this upcoming series.
«Sight Unseen» follows a former homicide detective who is clinically blind. Tess, the detective, must adapt to her new condition and her partner's near-death experience, leading her to quit her job. Reluctant to accept help, she connects with Sunny Patel, a professional seeing-eye guide living 3,000 miles away who is also an agoraphobe. Tess is haunted by unsolved cases from her past and, using a hidden camera and earpiece, Sunny remotely assists Tess in navigating life's obstacles and solving crimes, challenging preconceptions about ability, trust, and boundaries.
The series is inspired by the experience of one of its co-creators with sight loss. Sisters Karen and Nikolijne Troubetzkoy created the show, and John Fawcett, known for «Orphan Black,» is attached as a director and executive producer. This joint venture between CTV and The CW emphasizes equity, diversity, and inclusion principles in front of and behind the camera.
Filming for the 10-episode first season started in Vancouver on July 31, 2023, and will conclude on November 15, despite the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, thanks to an interim agreement with the union. The series is produced by Blink49 Studios and Front Street Pictures in association with Sisters Troubetzkoy Productions.
