A recent Booking.com survey that sought to uncover travel trends for 2024 found that travel is no longer considered an escape for young Indians but a catalyst for experiencing their best lives. 68 per cent of those surveyed (over 27,000 travellers across 33 countries) said they would be willing to rent a superior car for their travels, indicating a willingness to spend more to live their best lives.
“There's a trend towards booking more premium accommodations and higher room categories,” explained Rajesh Magow, co-Founder & Group CEO, of MakeMyTrip. “There has [also] been an increase in the number of room nights booked this year compared to last year, despite the average 10 per cent increase in fares, which is typical for this time of year.”
But, Booking.com noted, that while travellers want to level up their holiday experience with à la carte’ luxuries’, they are also keen to cut costs. “These à la carte ‘affluencers’ want to appear wealthy, sweeping away the reality of having to make financial sacrifices, but behind the scenes are obsessed with see-through spending and curating budget-friendly travel itineraries with the help of AI,” they said. 76 per cent of Indian travellers will want insights and tips from AI to enhance their experiences with suggested deals and offers while 66 per cent tend to search for budget-friendly alternatives that emulate the allure of luxury.
