As the Qualifier 2 match of IPL between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) is scheduled for today at 7:30 pm in Chennai might get affected by a light rainfall in the city. If it happens as forecasted by the Regional Meteorological Department then SRH has a chance to qualify for the finals swiftly.
As per the IPL’s rules, if a match is disrupted with a sudden rain then the team with higher points will be declared as the winner. This year’s IPL has faced disruptions due to weather, with rain causing the washout of three games.
Interestingly, unlike last season, this season the BCCI introduced an arrangement of ‘reserve day’ for all the play off matches including Qualifier 2 between SRH and RR. Last year only the final had a reserve day.
Last year, the final was completed on the reserve day after rain disrupted the scheduled day. This year, if rain delays a match, it will start afresh on the reserve day, even if it had already begun.
Additionally, up to 120 extra minutes beyond the cut-off time will be allocated to ensure the match can be completed on the scheduled day if possible.
If the rain disrupted the match on reserve day too then a team with higher points will be declared as the winner. But in the case of SRH and RR’ battle in Qualiger 2, both teams have the equal points, which is 17. But in such a situation the team with higher Net Run Rate will be declared as the winner.
As of now, SRH has superiority over RR with a Net Run Rate of +0.414 which gives them an advantage to go for finals without a fight in case of weather disruptions during the match.
