Stock market holiday: BSE, NSE to remain shut on Monday on account of Gurunanak Jayanti
NSE and BSE will be closed for trading on Monday, November 27 on account of Gurunanak Jayanti. Accordingly, all the segments including, the equity segment, derivative segment, and SLB segment will not trade.
Commodity exchange MCX will also be closed during the morning session but will open for trading in the evening session between 5 pm and 11:30 pm. The country's largest agricultural commodity exchange NCDEX will remain closed for trading in both sessions.
In the entire calendar year, the market has 15 annual holidays in 2023, two more than last year. This year four market holidays fell on Saturdays and Sundays which are non-trading days in a week. Mahashivratri, Id-Ul-Fitr (Ramzan Id) and Muharram were observed on Saturdays and Diwali on Sunday.
Ahead of the long weekend, headline indices S&P BSE Sensex and Nifty50 traded in the red amid selling pressure in IT and FMCG stocks. While the Sensex was trading at 65,926.14, down by 91.67 points or 0.14% from Thursday’s closing level, broader Nifty was trading at 19,779.25, lower by 22.75 points or 0.11%. The banking gauge Bank Nifty was up 0.11% or by 47 points around 1:30 pm and trading at 43,624.35.
The Nifty breadth was skewed in favour of the bears with 35 stocks trading with declines around this time.
The top gainers in the day's trade were Cipla, Divi's Laboratories, Hindalco Industries, Adani Enterprises, and JSW Steel while the top laggards were HCL Technologies, Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, Wipro, UPL and Nestle India.
Nifty is expected to end the week flat while Bank Nifty is over 1% lower on a week-on-week basis. Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty IT were the worst-performing indices on a weekly basis.
