Turning 40 is a bittersweet experience for women. On one hand, there may be a haunting, nagging sense of regret, of loss for our youth, for the ‘good old’ days.
However, ageing also forces us to get rid of pink-tinted goggles and see the world as it really is, and reach a state of contentment, without compromising our values.Sugar Cosmetics CEO Vineeta Singh, recently opened up on what entering her 40s taught her about life. Taking to LinkedIn, the entrepreneur reminisced about her youth.
She revealed that she was an idealist in her 20s. During her 30’s she focused on “self-preservation.” But now that she turned older, the entrepreneur learned to take life as it comes and find pleasure in its quirks without worrying over much about the unpleasant aspects.
She shared the following observations:
You can age with dignity and grace, yet retain a youthful outlook. You can practise gratitude and ambition simultaneously. You can be confident, yet have the desire to grow. You can be impatient about the process but patient about the outcomesIt is possible to care about concrete, material goals like ROI and profitability, yet not lose touch with your spiritual side. You can seek wealth to have more freedom but also to make other people’s dreams come trueYou can prioritise your family without compromising your well-being.You can cultivate close, meaningful friendships, yet learn to be at peace with your own company. You can have ambitious goals, delay gratification but still enjoy the small moments and celebrate the silliest of milestonesYou can be disciplined and be a task-master, without taking yourself seriously. You can remember that you’re a tiny speck in the universe and what you do won’t matter in the larger scheme of things.
