Michelle Buteau announced the news during an appearance on Today. The renewal comes more than six months after the comedy, based on Buteau’s book of essays, debuted on the service. The eight-episode show has received positive reviews, with an 85 per cent score among critics and an 89 per cent rating among viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. It also earned seven NAACP Awards nominations, including four for Buteau.

Co-created by Danielle Sanchez-Witzel («The Carmichael Show,» «New Girl»), the show is produced by A24. Linda Mendoza, Ravi Nandan, Alli Reich and Anne Hong serve as executive producers.
