Tata Electronics is set to have the Bhoomi Poojan function for its first chip assembly and testing unit at Jagi Road, Assam on Saturday.
The event, which is likely to take place at 10:30 am is expected to be attended by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran.
The Union Cabinet had in February approved proposals of three semiconductor plants, out of which two were in Gujarat and one in Assam, for an estimated cost of Rs 1.26 lakh crore.
The proposals included India’s first semiconductor fabrication plant or fab by Tata Electronics and Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. (PSMC) in Gujarat’s Dholera at a projected cost of Rs 91,000 crore.
Another proposal was of a greenfield facility in Assam that would be built with an investment outlay of Rs 27,000 crore and is expected to generate over 27,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region.
When the proposals were approved in February, Tata Electronics said its Assam OSAT facility would focus on three key platform technologies — Wire Bond, Flip Chip, and a differentiated offering called Integrated Systems Packaging (ISP), with plans of expanding the roadmap to advanced packaging technologies in the future.
It said these technologies are extremely critical for key applications in India – like automotive (especially electric vehicles), communications, network infrastructure and others.
Tata Electronics had said the first phase of the facility would become operational by mid-2025 and will provide an immense boost to
