Tata Mumbai Marathon (TMM). Some would have finished, some will still be pounding the pavement, others might have found the distance a little too much.
Not everyone is running the full 42 km of course-there are six race categories to choose from, with the full marathon being the longest distance. Also out and about--and this is something the Mumbai marathon is known for--will be spectators who will turn out in their hundreds of thousands to cheer the runners along.
And here's another thing to cheer about-the money raised for philanthropic causes by 267 NGOs via sponsorship of runners amounts to a record ₹58 crore.
«We have been truly blessed to receive an outpouring of love and emotions for TMM 2024, which has become a movement in its true sense,» said Vivek Singh, joint MD at Procam, which is conducting the event.
«Our hashtag #HarDilMumbai perfectly sums up what the marathon means, because whether one may be running, cheering or even just hosting other runners at their homes, the entire city comes together for this occasion.»
Key business personalities are regulars at the event, including Tata Sons chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Gagan Banga of Indiabulls, Vineeta Singh of Sugar Cosmetics and V Vaidyanathan of IDFC Bank .
The start-finish line for the full marathon is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in downtown Mumbai.
The course snakes its way north along Marine Drive and the Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Bandra and then loops back via Gopalrao Deshmukh Marg. The half marathoners, by tradition, will start from Mahim and end at CSMT.
The Full marathon has 10,700 runners signed up. Adding the virtual runners takes it to over 11,000.
