Telecom equipment worth ₹6,911 crore was exported by companies selected under the production linked incentive (PLI) scheme till May, the government said on Wednesday. «The companies under the scheme have made an export of ₹6,911 crore up till May 31, 2023,» minister of state for communications Devusinh Chauhan said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.
The PLI scheme was launched on February 24, 2021, to promote domestic manufacturing of specified telecom and networking products, including 4G and 5G products, and also design-led manufacturing in the country. Chauhan said so far, 281,948 5G sites have been set up by telecom operators in the country.
As per data shared by the minister, 228,689 have been set up by Reliance Jio and 53,223 by Bharti Airtel. Vodafone Idea has set up 36 5G sites in Pune and Delhi, he said.
Further, Chauhan said India has designed and developed its own 4G/5G technology stacks and the deployment has started in state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited. To promote the ecosystem for research and development and make India a global manufacturing hub, the government has taken various initiatives, including PLI scheme, a telecom technology development fund scheme and digital communication innovation square under champion services sector scheme.
