data leak at Star Health Insurance, Telegram's legal counsel said that the platform could remove specific accounts if the company provides concrete evidence that certain accounts were involved in data leaks, Reuters reported.
The lawyer further said that while Telegram can take action with adequate proof, it cannot do 'policing work' by independently monitoring content.
Earlier in September, Star Health had filed a lawsuit against Telegram and a hacker following a report by Reuters. The report revealed that chatbots on Telegram were being used to leak personal data and medical reports of about 3 crore Star Health policyholders.
A court in Tamil Nadu had granted Star Health a temporary injunction. The court ordered Telegram to block chatbots or websites in India that distribute this data. This information was shared by Star Health in a public notice published in The Hindu newspaper.
Star Health called the incident an act of «illegal hacking and unauthorized accessing of the confidential, sensitive» information.
