Social messaging app Telegram is introducing an advertising platform that enables channel owners to receive rewards in Toncoin.
The Telegram Ad Platform will officially launch in March to advertisers in nearly 100 countries, CEO Pavel Durov announced Wednesday.
“Channel owners in these countries will start receiving 50% of any revenue that Telegram makes from displaying ads in their channels.”
He noted that Telegram’s broadcast channels generate 1 trillion views monthly. However, the monetization percentage in only 10% at present. This is done via its promotional tool Telegram Ads.
With the announcement, channel owners can benefit by monetizing their content effectively. As a result, Telegram joins other social media giants YouTube and X (formerly Twitter), both of which currently offer ad revenue sharing with users.
Currently, content creators on YouTube receive 55% of the ad revenue via YouTube Partner Program. On the other hand, X opened up its ad revenue sharing program with global creators in July 2023, following which, several creators posted they received substantial payouts.
Telegram founder Durov further said in his update that the platform would exclusively use the TON blockchain, “to ensure ad payments and withdrawals are fast and secure.”
