Virat Kohli has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a congratulatory call following the team's T20 World Cup triumph on Saturday.
Kohli, who received the Player of the Match award for his crucial innings of 76 runs against South Africa in the final, responded to PM Modi on X, appreciating his kind words and encouragement.
«Dear @narendramodi sir, thank you so much for your very kind words and unwavering support. It has been an honor to be part of this team that has brought the trophy home. We are deeply touched and overwhelmed by the joy it has brought to the entire nation,» Kohli wrote.
Following India's victory, PM Modi called the team to extend his congratulations, praising Rohit Sharma's leadership and his impressive T20 career.
Both Rohit and Kohli decided to retire from T20 Internationals after India ended their 11-year ICC trophy drought.
«It's time for the next generation to take T20 cricket forward. We've been waiting a long time to win an ICC tournament. Look at someone like Rohit, he's played 9 T20 World Cups and this is my sixth. He deserves it,» Kohli said.
«That was my last game as well. Honestly, I've enjoyed it since I started playing this format. There's no better time to bid farewell to this format. I've cherished every moment of it. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted to do: win the Cup and say goodbye,» said Rohit.
