Thar’s craze continues: Amitabh Bachchan takes Mahindra’s popular SUV for a thrilling spin

SUV, undoubtedly, has a huge fanbase in the country. Launched in 2020, the SUV has already achieved 1 lakh milestone in terms of sales. Currently, the SUV has a waiting period of up to 75 weeks depending on the model.

Joining the fandom list is Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan who was recently spotted driving the Thar SUV. In a video which is now going viral on the internet, Big B can be seen driving the hardtop version of the SUV with 4-wheel drive (4WD). While it is difficult to specify the exact engine of Mahindra Thar that Bachchan was driving, but the 4WD logo signifies that it could either be a 2-litre turbo petrol engine or a 2.2-litre diesel engine.

The smaller 1.5-liter diesel engine choice is only available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) models, which come with a RWD logo.  The video was shared by Manav Manglani on Reddit platform. Mahindra Thar is offered in both manual as well as automatic transmissions with choice of petrol as well as diesel. The SUV can be purchased at a starting price of ₹10.54 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model.

The top-end variant, on the other hand costs ₹16.78 lakh (ex-showroom). The 1.5-litre engine Thar RWD diesel variant can produce 117 PS of maximum power and 300 Nm of peak torque. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine on the petrol variant is capable of producing 150 PS of maximum power and 320Nm of peak torque.

Amitabh Bachchan owns a range of luxury cars. List of cars owned by him include Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography, Bentley Continental GT, Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lexus LX 470, Mercedes-Benz GLS among others. Meanwhile, Mahindra is also working on the five-door model of Thar.
