The famous haunting in Britain that has inspired many films, television shows, and plays, including the movie The Conjuring 2, will now be the subject of another play in the UK. Called The Enfield Haunting, the stage play stars Doctor Who actor Catherine Tate along with David Threlfall of Shameless fame. The Enfield Haunting is a new play based on the Enfield poltergeist of 1977, one of the most known and allegedly real poltergeist events in the world.
In the play, Catherine Tate essays the lead role of Peggy Hodgson, a single mother who is disturbed when things in the house start moving on their own. David Threlfall's character is yet to be confirmed. Paul Unwin has adapted the play.
The synopsis of The Enfield Haunting reads: «They were an ordinary, working-class family, who lived in a North London council house at 284 Green Street, Enfield, but for the next 18 months became the centre of one of the most famous poltergeist events in the world. The Enfield Haunting is the true story of what happened when Peggy Hodgson tries to protect her three children from something that is incomprehensible, deeply disturbing and is hurtling to a terrifying conclusion,» the synopsis continues. As per a report in Digital Spy, Catherine Tate said she was «thrilled» to be part of the production and «can’t wait to start working with the first-class creative team» and the «brilliant David Threlfall».
