The operation is over! The patient lived and is healing: Donald Trump after announcing reciprocal tariffs
Donald Trump on Thursday said that the US economy would emerge «far stronger» even as markets went down globally after the reciprocal tariffs.
Taking to social media platform Truth, Trump said, «The operation is over! The patient lived and is healing. The prognosis is that the patient will be far stronger, bigger, better and more resilient than ever before.»
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also reassured US markets. «To anyone on Wall Street this morning, I would say, 'Trust in President Trump.' This is a president who is doubling down on his proven economic formula,» she said while speaking with CNN.
She said the tariffs, which include 10 percent across the board levies on imports and steeper barriers on several countries including India, meant «the United States is no longer going to be cheated by foreign nations.»

«These countries around the world have had 70 years to do the right thing by the American people and they have chosen not to. They have ripped off American workers. They have taken our jobs overseas. The president is putting an end to that yesterday,» she added.
US reciprocal tariffs
Trump declared on Wednesday a 10 per cent baseline tax on imports from all countries and higher tariff rates on dozens of nations that run trade surpluses with the United States, threatening to upend much of the architecture of the global economy and trigger broader trade wars.
Trump said a 34 per cent tax on imports from China, a 26 per cent on India, 20 per cent tax on imports from the European Union, 25 per cent on South Korea, 24 per cent on Japan and 32 per cent on Taiwan. However, a White House annex outlining future reciprocal tariff rates showed different figures for at least 14 economies
