Amazon Prime Video has made the decision to cancel «The Peripheral», as reported by Variety. The announcement comes despite Amazon's prior renewal of the show for a second season in February. Adapted from the William Gibson novel of the same title, the series premiered on Amazon on October 21, 2022.
Starring Chloë Grace Moretz, the show was brought to life by executive producers Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, who are under an extensive deal with Amazon. A source familiar with the situation revealed that the choice to halt the progression of the second season was heavily influenced by the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes. Consequently, even if production resumed in the near future, Season 2 wouldn't likely be available until sometime around 2025.
According to the official description, the narrative revolves around Flynne Fisher (portrayed by Moretz), a woman striving to mend the fragments of her fractured family in an overlooked corner of America's forthcoming landscape. Flynne, bright and determined, appears fated for misfortune, until the future itself beckons to her. The inaugural season's cast included Moretz, Jack Reynor, Gary Carr, Eli Goree, Louis Herthum, JJ Feild, T’Nia Miller, Charlotte Riley, Alexandra Billings, Adelind Horan, Alex Hernandez, Katie Leung, Julian Moore-Cook, Melinda Page Hamilton, Chris Coy, and Austin Rising.
The show's television adaptation was developed by Scott B. Smith, who also served as executive producer and showrunner. Nolan and Joy, operating through Kilter Films, assumed roles as executive producers.
