The series, based on Kate Anderson Brower’s book 'The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House,' promises to deliver a murder mystery in the vein of Agatha Christie’s Poirot.
Netflix, which acquired the book rights in July 2018, announced the series adaptation in March 2022. Attorney-turned-screenwriter Paul William Davies, known for his work on projects like Scandal and For the People, will serve as both the writer and showrunner for 'The Residence.' The series is part of Davies’ new overall deal with Netflix, where Shondaland is also exclusively tied. Joining Shondaland’s impressive Netflix portfolio, which includes the popular Bridgerton and the recently released Inventing Anna, 'The Residence' is eagerly awaited by viewers. Liza Johnson, director of 'The Last of Us,' is set to direct four episodes of the series.
