The Sixth Commandment is based on the true story of two deaths in the same neighbourhood involving a young man and two elderly citizens. The show will portray how a man called Ben lures senior citizens into a relationship with him and manipulates them to get hold of their belongings, or coerces them to change their will in his favor. Ben first manipulates Peter Farquhar, a teacher. After Peter’s suspicious death, Ben gets into a relationship with the 81-year-old Ann Moore-Martin, who is Peter's neighbour. He repeats the manipulations with her. However, her niece intervenes and Ann removes Ben from her will. This is the real crime’s account, as reported in the papers.Birmingham Mail quotes a BBC spokesman as stating that The Sixth Commandment explores «the way in which both Peter and Ann were manipulated by Field, capturing the extreme gaslighting, the gripping police investigation and the high-profile trial». The series will be «poignantly highlighting the devastating effect of isolation and loneliness», of the elderly citizens, he said. It will also celebrate «Peter and Ann’s lives as cherished mentors, much loved relatives and adored friends», he said.
