Fort Knox holds around 147.4 million ounces of gold, according to Yahoo News. More than half of the US government's total reserves come from this gold and is one of the wealthiest vaults in the world.
According to the report, the last official audit of Fort Knox’s gold was conducted in 1974 by the US General Accounting Office and the Department of the Treasury. However, due to strict security measures, the details of the gold’s storage have remained largely secret, leaving conspiracy theorists unsatisfied.
Despite the audit’s aim to put rumours to rest, it only temporarily eased scepticism. According to CMI Gold & Silver, one of the oldest gold and silver dealers in the United States, conspiracy theorists believe two things: that the gold is either severely depleted or entirely gone, and that some of the gold bars are fake, made of tungsten coated with gold.
The Fort Knox vault cannot be entered by the public due to security reasons.
