Mitchell Marsh got major flak on social media due to a controversial picture that was circulated on Instagram. In the photograph, the 32-year-old Aussie cricketer was seen with his legs resting on top of the World Cup trophy while the team celebrated the sweet win.
Almost a fortnight after the win, Marsh has now finally aired his take on the contentious matter.
In an exclusive interview with an Australian publication, SEN, the 32-year-old has reiterated that he meant no disrespect for his celebration that caused a stir across India.
«There was obviously no disrespect meant in that photo at all.
I haven't given it too much thought, I haven't seen a lot on social media even though everyone tells me it's gone off. There is nothing in that,» Marsh was quoted as saying to SEN.
When asked if he would do an encore, SEN reported that Marsh responded. “Yeah probably, to be honest.
He also said that he had not checked social media since the win.
After the photograph went viral, Marsh courted controversy as Indian fans objected to his posture, calling it «disrespectful». It also led to some seeking the help of the police. An activist from Uttar Pradesh's Bhrashtachar Virodhi Sena filed a police complaint against the all-rounder.
