chilly across north India, huh? The last few days have been cold and grey, and the weather guys have warned that the cold wave will continue till the end of next week. However, this drop in temperature is nothing unusual at this time of year. Neither is the dust gunk that's made twilight out of the days.
But that has not stopped Delhiites from cribbing about the cold and foggy weather, forgetting that the other option this two-season city has — SUMMER — is terrible.
The next time someone says that the Capital is freezing, tell them gently about this region called Scandinavia. On Wednesday, Sweden, for instance, recorded its coldest January night in 25 years, with a reading of -43.6° C. Yes, you read it right — minus 43.6° C — in the far north.
Neighbouring Finland isn't doing too hot either. It recorded -38.7° C, a seasonal record that looks like a summer reading to us minus the minus at the start. The cold weather has hit public transport, and some areas are without water.
So, instead of cribbing about dipping temps, Delhiites, be a sport. Take out the long coats and boots you bought in last year's end-of-season sale, the woollen pom-pom caps, and enjoy the best the city has to offer during winter: wood-fired kebabs, picnics, cultural dos. Remember: the summer of discontent isn't too far behind.
