Trace Cyrus recently claimed that his adoptive father, country music star Billy Ray Cyrus, threatened him with legal action after he urged him to “get help.” The 35-year-old son of the ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ singer shared on Instagram Stories that he has not had any contact with his father since he publicly expressed concern for his well-being. This came after a troubled performance by Billy Ray Cyrus at President Donald Trump's inaugural ball.

In an emotionally charged lengthier open letter to his father on Instagram, Trace wrote, “For you to threaten me with legal action for wanting you to get help is a disgrace.” It continued, “You should be ashamed of yourself. I will always love you but I no longer respect you as a man. Everyone close to you is terrified to tell you how they really feel.”

According to USA Today, Trace stated in his Instagram Stories that his father had contacted a «family member to let me know he's taking legal action against me for encouraging him to get help.» Trace also mentioned that he lives only 30 minutes away and that his father could have simply come to him and talked things through.
