Delhi Police has tightened security at the residence of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday night. The police have implemented a two-tier security ring and are using drones for surveillance to maintain law and order. Around a dozen Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers, including MLA Rakhi Birla, were briefly detained after they engaged in sloganeering and attempted to create a ruckus outside Kejriwal's home in Civil Lines. However, they were released later in the night.
Protests Expected; Security Stepped Up
The police are anticipating large-scale protests by AAP workers at several places on Friday. Security has been heightened outside the ED offices at Akbar Road and APJ Abdul Kalam Road. Multi-layer security arrangements are being planned for Kejriwal's expected court appearance on Friday afternoon. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC may be imposed in different areas of the city.
Heavy Security Deployment
Apart from police personnel from north Delhi, reserved forces and the Rapid Action Force have been deployed at Kejriwal's residence on Flagstaff Road. Barricades have been set up on the lane leading to the chief minister's official residence in north Delhi. The Special Branch is closely monitoring the situation and keeping a tab on any potential demonstrations.
