However, GM responded by stating that they had received the counterproposal, but there were still significant differences to be addressed.
In addition to their negotiations with GM, the UAW also engaged in new bargaining discussions with Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler. On another note, Ford announced on Monday that it would be temporarily laying off a total of 330 employees at its Chicago Stamping plant and its Lima, Ohio Engine plants. Meanwhile, GM also initiated layoffs, with 130 employees affected at its Parma, Ohio Metal Center and 34 employees at its Marion, Indiana Metal Center, Reuters reported.

However, Stellantis was exempted from the strike following last-minute negotiations. Furthermore, the UAW announced that it successfully negotiated a new labor agreement with Volvo Group's Mack Trucks, which covers 4,000 workers and was finalized just before the Sunday night deadline.
