Uber has more than 1 million drivers in India, chief executive Dara Khosrowshahi said during the ride-hailing platform’s March-quarter earnings call.
India is the third country behind the US and Brazil to reach the 1-million-driver mark.
The company reported a 26% year-on-year increase in gross bookings for its mobility business globally in the first quarter, Khosrowshahi said. «We continue to see healthy audience growth of 17% due to continued penetration into new geographies and expansion of new use cases, along with consistent frequency growth.»
In February, during an interaction with ET, Khosrowshahi had said that he was confident that the company would reach the 1-million-driver mark in India.
“There’s one other market in the world, Brazil, which has broken a million. I’m quite confident we will break that in India. The earnings (of driver-partners) here are well above the minimum wage, and it’s a flexible way to earn,” he had said.
“India’s one of our fastest growing markets both in terms of bookings and transactions. The larger markets usually grow slowly but this is one large market that is growing quickly,” he said at the time.
Uber’s global revenue increased 15% from a year earlier to $10.13 billion in the quarter ended March
