«The people, through the results of the Delhi elections, have spoken that the parties (opposition parties) should come together in an alliance against the BJP. The Delhi results would have been different if the two parties — Congress and AAP — would have fought together,» said Sanjay Raut, Rajya Sabha MP of Sena (UBT). Raut, unlike other Opposition parties, did not single out the Congress for the debacle.
«It is the responsibility of both the Congress and AAP, not just Congress alone to forge an alliance. It was both the parties' responsibility to come together and fight. Not doing that has meant that democracy and the country has suffered. This has benefitted the BJP they are happy with the results,» he said. Raut, however, took on the Congress for exulting over the AAP's loss in Delhi. «They (Congress) are happy with the results. If they are happy that AAP lost while getting zero seats themselves, then it is not good for democracy,» he said. The MP said that the position of party president Uddhav Thackeray was that if the INDIA bloc was not able to forgo their differences and fight the BJP unitedly then they should quit politics, warning that «democracy and the country won't survive».
