Sufiya Sufi's incredible journey from a baggage handling officer at the IGI airport in Delhi to a world-renowned ultra-runner is a testament to determination and resilience. Sufiya, who has earned five Guinness World records, including a remarkable 4,000 km run from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in just 87 days, has defied all odds to achieve her dreams.
For Sufiya, running is more than just a sport; it's a form of therapy that allows her to shed the burdens of everyday life.
It provides her with the freedom she craves, away from the constraints of a 9-hour work shift. Running also serves as a means to explore her physical and mental limits, constantly pushing the boundaries of what she can achieve.
Sufiya's journey began when she realized that her job in the aviation industry was taking a toll on her health due to its demanding schedule.
In pursuit of a healthier and more fulfilling life, she gradually ventured into marathon running and eventually sought the guidance of a professional running coach. At that moment, she knew that the open road would become her true companion.
Reflecting on her experiences, the 37-year-old Sufiya shared in an interview with IANS, «I worked at the IGI airport in Delhi for a decade as a baggage handling officer.
Though joining the aviation industry was always a dream, I realized that the robotic schedule was ruining my health and giving me no opportunity to be 'out there' in the real sense of the world. Slowly, I started taking part in marathons and ultimately hired a professional running coach.
