BJP has fielded seven MPs, including three Union ministers, and a national general secretary in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh polls. BJP hopes their influence will not only impact their seats, but help sway votes in the party's favour in neighbouring constituencies as well.
On Monday, BJP released the second list of 39 candidates, which included the names of Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar (candidate from Dimani), Prahlad Patel (candidate from Narasingpur) and Faggan Singh Kulaste (from Niwas, an ST reserved seat).
BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has been fielded from Indore-1 in his pocket borough of Indore.
It would be interesting to see whether BJP will field his son Akash Vijayvargiya, MLA from another assembly segment in Indore.
The party has also fielded four MPs — Ganesh Singh from Satna, Rakesh Singh from Jabalpur West, Riti Pathak from Sidhi and Uday Pratap Singh from Gadarwara.
Assembly seats of these four MPs are part of their Lok Sabha constituencies.
Tomar enjoys influence in the Chambal Gwalior region, Vijayvargiya in Malwa region, Patel and Rakesh Singh and Kulaste in Mahakaushal region. BJP has fielded three MPs including two Union ministers from Mahakaushal region, from where Congress CM nominee Kamal Nath hails.
With this list, the BJP had announced 78 candidates for the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, much ahead of the announcement of the poll schedule.
Similar moves to field MPs for the assembly elections is expected in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.
