Uttar Pradesh government is planning «early warning system» across schools in the state. Taking inspiration from the Netherlands, the basic education department has initially implemented the new system in Gonda, Bahraich, Balrampur, and Shravasti districts of Uttar Pradesh. As per a ToI report, the primary objective of this system is to ensure that students remain engaged in their education and do not discontinue their schooling.
The mechanism operates by closely monitoring each student's attendance. If a student is absent from school for more than 40 days, educational authorities promptly intervene. Parents or guardians are contacted, and every effort is made to facilitate the child's return to the educational institution.
An official from the education department told ToI, stating, «This initiative mandates school principals to take proactive steps in reducing student absenteeism. They are entrusted with the responsibility of formulating effective response strategies. Additionally, they play a pivotal role in supporting students who are at the brink of dropping out, ensuring their continued connection with the educational institution.» Meanwhile, in other significant steps to improve education system in the state, the state cabinet has approved the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission Ordinance, 2023, to establishes an integrated body for teacher recruitment in UP's government-run and aided schools and institutions.
