BJP government in Uttar Pradesh passed a tenth government order in the past six years earlier this week, asking officials to show adequate courtesy and observe required protocol while dealing with public representatives as legislators continued to raise the issue. Legislators, both of opposition and the ruling party, have been complaining that administrative and police officials do not show adequate courtesy while speaking to them on the phone and often do not take cognisance of written communication regarding issues in their areas.
Earlier this week, Samajwadi Party MLA Manoj Pandey raised the issue while a session of the Vidhan Sabha was in motion. «The current situation is such that if some senior officer takes our call, he shows respect and courtesy but if a lower level officer takes our call and we introduce ourselves, he says, haan bolo (yes, speak up)… they do not even consider it important to greet us.
This is a pain felt by all of us,» he said in the presence of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, adding that under the SP government too, four government orders were issued in this regard. While a government order in this regard had been passed as recently as August 4, before the session started, another order was issued on August 8 following Pandey's lamentation the same day.
