The gold card will come with green card privileges and offer a path to American citizenship for individuals ready to pay $5 million, according to Trump's proposal.
The traditional EB-5 visa programme, which is proposed to be axed, requires investment of $800,000-1.05 million — depending on location — and creation of full-time employment for at least 10 people. Also, unlike EB-5, where the investment could earn returns, gold card is a fee to get a green card, said immigration experts.

«The number of people applying to invest to migrate to the US will definitely scale down if the executive order by Trump manages to get approval from the Senate and Congress,» said Poorvi Chothani, founder of global immigration law firm LawQuest. «EB-5 is accessible to many more and there is an almost certainty (with it of) getting their invested amount back. The fact that $5 million is a sunk cost will be a deterrent and out of reach for many.»
